Standing at a height of 5 feet and 6 inches, while weighing roughly 10 stone means Joel is a relatively small and slender person. He does not have showy muscles or a big, masculine torso but his body is naturally toned because of the low amount of fat he has. His skin is very pale, as he is unable to tan, no matter how long he stays in the sun.
They say the eyes are the windows to the soul and Joel's are a vivid green, while his hair has an Ash Gray color. His hair has an untidy look, hanging just below his ears in the front, while reaching his neck in the back.
His usual everyday outfit consists of a white shirt, of which he keeps the top two buttons unbuttoned. The shirt bears a small marine insignia on the left sleeve and a patch with a palm tree on the right, a tribute to his hometown of Baterilla. He also wears a pair of black skinny jeans and blue sneakers. When he has to stay incognito, he wears a hooded overcoat, covering him completely, except for the collar of his shirt, earning him the nickname 'White Collar Zephyr'.
Perhaps the most peculiar thing about Joel is the mask he carries with him everywhere he goes. He usually has it hanging sidewise over his head, covering his left ear and cheek. The only times he actually puts in on in a correct manner is when he is shy or about to fight. The mask itself is shaped as a cat's head and is white in color.Also, the lower part of the mask is curved to make it fit better around the head.

Joel is a very emotional person, even though most people wouldn't say that about him. He has the ability to read situations extremely well, but in the end, he will still do whatever he thinks is right. Growing up, Joel was selfish and troublesome to everyone in his immediate surroundings, but as he got older, he developed a sense of repent and an extreme desire to right his wrongs. That is the exact reason why he joined the marines and wants to dedicate his life to getting people on the right path again.
Caring:
He didn't become a marine to arrest pirates like many others. Instead, he wants to create a safer environment for the people he loves. This shows how much of a caring individual he actually is. He will go out of his way to take care of people weaker than him and tend to the wounded, even if they're criminals.
Nonjudgemental:
Joël will never look at anyone's social status before engaging in conversation. He will treat a noble with the same amount of respect as he would an ordinary criminal, given that they would both show him the same amount of respect.
Passionate:
Whenever Joel does something, he does it with all his heart. Whether it is something basic like sparring with a fellow marine or something of key importance, such as fighting to the death with a criminal. But above all, Joel is passionate about being a marine. 'A smile can shine brighter than the sun!' is something Joel's mother used to say to him all the time. Background
- The Baterilla Saga:
Life had always been easy for young Joel. Born as the only son of two former marines, he didn't have a single worry in the world. His family was adored by everyone in his hometown of Baterilla and he had a caring family supporting him in whatever he did. His parents Reginald and Aileen Zephyr had left their lives as marines behind them and settled down in Baterilla. There, his mother opened a small grocery store while his father, who was an extraordinarily intelligent man, started working in the town's library.
Even from a very young age, Joel showed amazing academic skills, being able to read books destined for teenagers at the age of four. He spent days at a time reading books in the library while his father was working. By the age of 9, Joel's general knowledge of the world far exceeded that of any normal teenager and that was when he started having trouble fitting in with his peers.
Joel didn't really mind his lack of friends, as he had always sought comfort in books, rather than in people anyway and continued to do so well into his teen years. Actually, up until he turned thirteen, the boy had never actively participated in anything other than group reading sessions. That all drastically changed when his mother's business started going worse.
When Joel turned thirteen, the economic crisis struck the family grocery store, forcing his parents to take drastic measures. Joel was taken out of school and forced to help in the store, as they could no longer afford any help. Being the obedient son that he was, he listened without question and for two years, he worked in that store from sunrise until sundown.
This meant however that the boy no longer had any time for his books and the lack of academic stimuli changed something about him. As time went on, the once so calm teenager became an impulsive, nervous young man. This caused friction between him and his father, up until the point that the man shipped him away to military school, with nothing more than a backpack full of things to remind him of home.
- The Military School Saga:
At the age of sixteen, Joel was taken out of his cosy, safe comfort zone and dropped into a military school. If there was anything the boy lacked, it was street knowledge. Being book smart wasn't going to help him here and he knew that, so he adapted. Day in, day out he was put through rigorous training, as the drill sergeants made him make up for all the years that he didn't have any physical exercice. He ran for hours at a time, was taught a series of martial arts, all of which he was completely terrible at.
At the age of seventeen, Joel was first given a bokken, the training version of a katana. Normally, students that wished to become swordsmen started training with the weapon at the age of ten. Soon, Joel discovered a passion even greater than his love for books, his love for the sword. From the moment he first laid hands on a real katana, the teenager was sold. Everything about it came naturally to him, as if he was born with a katana in his hand. In no-time, he changed from being the worst student in his year to being the best swordsman in the academy, even giving the drill sergeants a run for their money.
From this moment on, he was adamant on showing everyone that he had what it took to become the best. He would never be ridiculed anymore, he would become an unstoppable force and would use that power to do good things in this world. Someday, he would be a fleet admiral.
Whenever he could, Joel could be found training his swordsmanship and honing his skill with the blade. The results showed when he graduated at the age of eighteen. Straight from the academy, he was accepted to become a full-fledged marine and began on his quest to work his way up the ladder.
- Climbing up the ladder:
- Fresh off Military School, Joel joined the world government as a rookie marine, an ensign. Dreaming of becoming a fleet admiral one day, he was determined to prove his worth to anyone that still questioned his abilities. Often sent on solo missions because of his unique set of skills, the man had soon proven his worth and made a name for himself in the logue town marine base, where he was stationed.
In under a year, the now only eighteen-year old Joel was promoted to lieutenant junior grade after finishing his fiftieth assignment. It was then, that Joel really started to shine. More difficult missions were handed to him, as people took notice of his incredible ability to blend in with the crowd. Because of his small posture, he could get near possible targets without being spotted, before taking them out with formidable speed. It was at this time that he started disguising himself when on assassination missions. He bought himself a black hooded overcoat and stitched a massive marine insignia on the back of it.
At the age of twenty-one, when Joel was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, he felt as if it was time to add something extra to his disguise, as he hand-crafted a mask for himself, shaped like a cat. He had always admired cats for their speed and finesse and mirrored his fighting style after them.
After becoming a lieutenant, he was given the choice to take over the lead of a marine base somewhere in the north blue, but denied the offer. He started travelling on his own, from marine base to marine base, helping anyone in need of his assistance.

Joel's mind processes data quicker than an avarage human being's. He does mundane tasks such as reading a lot quicker than the avarage human, but can also predict possible outcomes a lot more quickly and efficiently. This makes him excel in split-second decision making.
